DJ Steve Porter’s Porterhouse Media Super Bowl Highlight Mix To Debut This Sunday On ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown

Highlights From Previous Super Bowls Wrapped Into Trademark Mashup

HOLYOKE, Mass. (February 3, 2012) --- PorterHouse Media, a production company founded by world-renowned master video remixer DJ Steve Porter, has been commissioned by ESPN to produce a video mashup highlighting previous Super Bowls, and which will air this Sunday on Sunday NFL Countdown.

Porter and crew took highlights from the past 45 Super Bowls and mashed them into the trademark Porterhouse style of fast cuts and unique sights and sounds (think the viral sensation “All He Does Is Win” video from Porter this past December, showcasing the unconventional talents of Denver Broncos' quarterback Tim Tebow).

The end result is an entertaining homage to the most popular single-game sporting event in the world.

This Sunday's Sunday NFL Countdown will air live on ESPN from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET from Indianapolis, site of Super Bowl XVLI that evening from Lucas Oil Stadium, and pitting the New York Giants against the New England Patriots.

“The Super Bowl has consistently delivered on its promise of being a great game, which provided us with so much classic footage to work with,” said Porter, a huge sports fan who grew up in the shadows of the Patriots' Foxboro Stadium.  “From the first game in 1967, to last year's Packers-Steelers thriller, our aim was to showcase all the excitement of the game's rich history, and we're thrilled with the end result.  We're sure this video will be entertaining to everyone.”

Porterhouse Media has worked with the Sunday NFL Countdown, ESPN's highest-rated studio program, for the past two seasons, creating a variety of popular video remixes, and considered to be the highlight of the show among many Porterhouse faithful.

Sunday NFL Countdown premiered in 1985 and is hosted by Chris Berman, who is joined each week by a cast of analysts including NFL Hall of Famer Mike Ditka, Tom Jackson, Keyshawn Johnson, Cris Carter and Chris Mortensen, among others.  The show airs each Sunday during the NFL regular season from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET on ESPN, and has been honored with seven Sports Emmy Awards for Outstanding Weekly Show.

PorterHouse Media has enjoyed a longtime association with The Worldwide Leader In Sports, also producing its popular “Monthly Mashup” for SportsCenter.  PHM also created videos that aired as part of the official 2010 NBA Playoffs marketing Campaign.

Additionally for ESPN, Porter was nominated in 2010 for a Webby Award for his "Press Hop 2" video, which remixed memorable press conferences and player and coach rants into a hysterical rap video that premiered on the ESPN's SportsNation.

PHM's unique ability to bridge sports with music in creating unique, engaging, and eye-catching music-video compositions has translated into similar work with such clients such as NBC, the NBA world champion Dallas Mavericks, TMZ, VH1, New York Knicks, E!, Puma, Maxim, Wheaties and others.

PHM also develops custom solutions tailored for specific needs and wants based on a variety of other clients, such as FedEx, Hyundai, Disney, Mighty Fine Burgers, Lotus Notes, Doc Bottom's Aspray, and many others.

Porterhouse Media’s DJ Steve Porter Continues To Impress Howard Stern . . . And Now Seth Rogen

“King Of All Media” Debuts Seth Rogen Mashup To None Other Than . . . Seth Rogen

HOLYOKE, Mass. (January 19, 2012) --- Last month, world-renowned master video remixer DJ Steve Porter, founder of the full-service video production company PorterHouse Media, created a mashup of Howard Stern's infamous ““Wack Pack,” a collection of his craziest and most rabid fans.

The “King Of All Media” was so enamored with the piece that he played it on Howard TV, his on-demand television service, and raved about Porter's talent on his XM/Sirius Radio satellite radio show, labeling Porter as “brilliant.”

Well, now Stern has more of Porter's work to praise.

On his show this past Monday (Jan. 9), Stern debuted Porter's latest work – a mashup featuring some of the more salty work of comedian/actor/screenwriter/producer Seth Rogen and one of the biggest names in Hollywood these days – to none other than Rogen himself, who was Stern's guest in studio that morning.

Peppered with sound effects from Wack Packer “Will The Farter” and Maria Menounos (she of the famous laugh), the two-minute piece was met with astonishment and guffaws from both Stern and Rogen, as well as Stern staffers Robin Quivers, Gary Dell'Abate and Fred Norris, among others present in the studio at the time.

“I think it's a big hit,” said Stern, adding once again that he thinks Porter is “brilliant.”

Rogen was just as impressed – if not more so.

“I just got my theme song,” said the star of such hit movies as Pineapple Express, Superbad and The Green Hornet (he also co-wrote all three) after seeing the piece for the first time.  “I wish that played in every room I walk into.  That was awesome!”

“Like the Stern piece we did last month, this one was also a blast to put together,” said Porter.  “Seth Rogen is one of the funniest people on the planet, so this was a no-brainer for us in combining it with some of the Wack Pack.”

Stern's popular satellite radio show on XM/Sirius Radio can be heard weekday mornings live on Howard 100 (channel 100), with replays all day.  Howard TV is Stern's on-demand television service which covers the daily happenings of the radio show, along with a host of additional programming.  It can also be accessed online at www.howard.tv.

Porter and PorterHouse Media has long had a unique ability to bridge messaging with music in creating unique, engaging, and eye-catching music-video compositions, producing work for ESPN, IBM, FedEx, NBC, ABC, VH1, E! Television, Wheaties, Puma, Disney, Lotus Notes, Hyundai, Maxim, Mighty Fine Burgers, the world champions Dallas Mavericks, and many others.

DJ Steve Porter’s Porterhouse Media Commissioned By New York Knicks For All-Star Push

Porterhouse Media Commissioned By New York Knicks “What Is A Knick?” Video Features Players, Fans, Celebrities

HOLYOKE, Mass. (January 12, 2011) --- PorterHouse Media, a full-service, multi-media production company founded by world-renowned master video remixer DJ Steve Porter, is continuing its work with the New York Knicks this season.

Porter and crew have been commissioned by the team to promote fan voting for the 2012 NBA All-Star Game, to be contested February 26 at the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla.

The theme of the video -- “What Is A Knick?” – asks Knicks legends, fans, current players and celebrities this question, and will be shown on the team's website (www.nba.com/knicks), as well as on the video screens during games at Madison Square Garden, appropriately known as “The World's Most Famous Arena.”

With the shortened NBA season having tipped off this past Christmas Day due to a owner-player labor dispute (close to two months behind schedule), the push is on for teams to promote their top players for all-star berths, which is decided by fan voting.

And the Knicks are not without their share of stars.

“The Knicks are one of the most exciting teams in the NBA,” said Porter, an avid NBA fan.  “They've got several players worthy of all-star consideration, so we had a lot to work with, and had a great time putting this together.  We love working with the NBA because its fast action compliments our work – it's the perfect fit, and we're sure viewers will agree.”

The question posed in the video is specific to players, such as “Carmelo is ___________?” and “Amar'e is ___________?” – referring to Knicks standouts Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire, respectively.

Expectations are high this season for the Knicks this season because of a roster combining a terrific blend of seasoned veterans with young talent.  While Stoudemire and Anthony are the anchor, also part of the mix are Mike Bibby, Tyson Chandler and Baron Davis – all with double-digit years playing in the National Basketball Association – as well as Iman Shumpert, Josh Harrellson, Landry Fields and Toney Douglas, among others.

Anthony, in fact, is currently the league's third-highest scorer, averaging 27.1 points per game to go with 6.5 rebounds and a team-high 4.3 assists, while Stoudemire is averaging 20.3 points and 8.3 rebounds.  Each have made multiple all-star appearances through the years.

Fans can cast their all-star ballots online at www.nba.com/allstar.  Voting ends January 31.

PHM has previously been commissioned by the Knicks for various video work because of its unique ability to bridge sports with music in creating unique, engaging, and eye-catching music-video compositions.  Last year's 'Vote Knicks' piece was a viral hit and can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7Y1aavsgVk

This has also translated into similar work with such clients as ESPN (including the popular “Monthly Mashup” on SportsCenter, along with a bevy of other work for the network), NBC, the world champion Dallas Mavericks, the CBC's “Hockey Night In Canada,” TMZ, VH1, E!, Puma, Maxim, Wheaties and others.

PHM also develops custom solutions tailored for specific needs and wants based on a variety of other clients, such as FedEx, Hyundai, Disney, Mighty Fine Burgers, Lotus Notes, Doc Bottom's Aspray, and many others.

DJ Steve Porter’s Porterhouse Media Creates “Wack Pack” Remix For Howard Stern’s Howard TV

PorterHouse Media custom music video and audio production for Howard Stern TV“King Of All Media”, Howard Stern Calls Porter “Brilliant”

HOLYOKE, Mass. (December 22, 2011) --- PorterHouse Media, a production company founded by world-renowned master video remixer DJ Steve Porter, can now add the King Of All Media to its clientele.

Porter and his crew were recently commissioned to create a 2:30 remix of Stern's famous (or is it infamous?) “Wack Pack,” a collection of his craziest and most rabid fans, which debuted last Wednesday, Dec. 14, on Howard TV.

The remix will be available for viewing on Howard TV until January 4.

The video includes a collection of the usual suspects, such as Bettlejuice, Jeff  the Drunk, Gary The Retard, and High Pitch Eric, with the omnipresent assortment of strippers and other fringe players peppered in for good measure.  Porter's unique mashing and music make this truly a one-of-a-kind creation.

In short, it makes for some very entertaining and 'must-watch' viewing, to say the very least.

“We've created some wild remixes, but it's safe to say this is the wildest,” said Porter.  “There's never a dull moment with Howard and his crew, and our biggest challenge was keeping this piece to just 2:30, as there was so much great video to work with.  We had an absolute blast putting it together, and are thrilled that everyone is so pleased with it.”

Stern, in fact, labeled Porter as “brilliant” and that the video was "terrific" upon viewing it, while Stern staffers Robin Quivers, Gary Dell'Abate, Fred Norris and others were quick to agree.

Howard TV is Stern's on-demand television service which covers the daily happenings of Stern's popular satellite radio show on XM/Sirius Radio, along with a host of additional programming.  It can also be accessed online at www.howard.tv.

DJ Steve Porter’s Porterhouse Media Tim Tebow “All He Does Is Win” Video On Its Way To Becoming A Viral Sensation

First 72 Hours On YouTube Draws Close To 700,000 Hits

HOLYOKE, Mass. (December 15, 2011) --- PorterHouse Media, a production company founded by world-renowned master video remixer DJ Steve Porter, has jumped on the Tim Tebow express with the creation of a video mash-up entitled “All He Does Is Win,” which has been viewed close to 700,000 times in its first 72 hours on YouTube – and is poised to be on its way to being a viral sensation.

The piece can be viewed here on the ESPN First Take YouTube page or below:

The 1:06 video mashes up ESPN First Take's Skip Bayless and other sports figures (including Tebow himself) to create the ultimate tribute to Tebow, the Denver Broncos quarterback who has taken the NFL – as well as the entire nation – by storm in leading his team to a 6-1 record and current AFC West lead since being inserted as the starter, despite the constant barrage of naysayers knocking his unorthodox quarterbacking skills and frequent expressions of religion.  His efforts have earned him the nickname “Mile High Messiah,” among others.

Billboard Magazine has quickly jumped on this story with this article:

“Tim Tebow is constantly being criticized for his style of play and for his faith, yet all he does is win,” said Porter, a huge sports fan. “This video pays homage to that simple fact.  Plus, he's an amazing role model who is a winner on and off the field, and we're having a blast watching him each week.”

PHM's unique ability to bridge sports with music in creating unique, engaging, and eye-catching music-video compositions has translated into similar work with such clients such as ESPN (including the popular “Monthly Mashup” on SportsCenter, along with a bevy of other work for the network), NBC, the world champion Dallas Mavericks, the CBC's “Hockey Night In Canada,” TMZ, VH1, New York Knicks, E!, Puma, Maxim, Wheaties and others.

DJ Steve Porter’s Porterhouse Media Promotes Season 3 Of NBC’s Community With Remix

Unveiled To Thousands At Comic-Con; TV Spots Also Planned

HOLYOKE, Mass. (September 7, 2011) --- PorterHouse Media, a production company founded by world-renowned master video remixer DJ Steve Porter, has continued its work with NBC's popular television comedy Community by producing a remix in anticipation of the show's third season premiere this September 23.

The video also promotes the September 21 release of the complete second season on DVD (which will include the remix), and was debuted to thousands in introducing the cast at the recent Comic-Con International Convention in San Diego.  Also planned are releases of 15- and 30-second TV spots culled from the remix.

“We always have a blast working on this show,” said Porter, who has created remixes for the show since its first season.  “There's so much to work with because of the nonstop and offbeat humor, and based on the reception we received at Comic-Con, season three is going to be even bigger than the first two.”

NBC's Community, produced by Sony Entertainment, is set at a fictional community college in the fictional town of Greendale, Col., and stars Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Chevy Chase and Ken Jeong.  The show heavily uses meta-humor and pop culture references, often parodying film and television clichés and tropes, and was nominated for Favorite New TV Comedy at last year's People's Choice Awards.  Community airs Thursday's at 8/7c.

BarelyDigital.com will soon be releasing the remix and TV spots on its YouTube channel. The season one remix debuted last year along with the Complete First Season DVD Set and was an instant hit with viewers.

DJ Steve Porter’s Porterhouse Media To Work With Sierra Club On “Beyond Coal” Initiative

Video Work Will Be Used In Many Ways To Encourage Coal Alternatives

HOLYOKE, Mass. (August 31, 2011) --- PorterHouse Media, a production company founded by world-renowned master video remixer DJ Steve Porter, has been selected by the prestigious Sierra Club to create a video to be used to promote its aggressive “Beyond Coal” campaign.

The 30-second spot will be utilized by the Sierra Club on the initiative's website (www.BeyondCoal.org), various online streaming and viral campaigns, at conferences and events, and elsewhere.

The goal of “Beyond Coal” is to stop coal production, which the Sierra Club notes is an outdated, backward, 19th-century technology, and the the single biggest source of global-warming and mercury pollution.  The Sierra Club has been making efforts to make sure the existing fleet of outdated coal plants gets cleaned up or phased out – and are replaced by solar and wind energy that will fill energy needs, create new jobs, and jump-start the green economy.

PHM's work will consist of mashing up footage of how clean, new energy is better vs. the huge negative effects that come with coal mining and production.

“Work like this always means so much to us, because it's helping to make our world a better place,” said Porter.  “This is an initiative we hold close to our hearts and are committed to.  We couldn't be more proud of being involved with the Sierra Club and all the great work they do.”

HOLYOKE, Mass. (June 30, 2011) --- DJ Steve Porter, world-renowned master video remixer and owner of the PorterHouse Media production company, has produced videos for ESPN, the NBA, the NFL, IBM, FedEx and many others.

But perhaps no other work has brought him more pride than his recent project with his high school alma mater, The Williston Northampton Academy of Easthampton, Mass.

Porter was recently commissioned by the preparatory school to produce a video entitled "Williston Is . . . " to use in recruiting efforts, and to show what an exceptional place Williston is to learn and live.

Porter, a 1997 graduate of the school, developed and oversaw a project which consisted of the school's film class students shooting the majority of the video used of students, faculty and alumni finishing the sentence that began "Williston is . . ."  The class then worked with Porter in adding original music to the video, as well as editing the final cut.

"Williston Northampton was an incredibly special time in my life, and to be asked to come back to develop a piece to further the great tradition of the school was a humbling honor," said Porter.  "Working with and mentoring current students and seeing the excitement in their faces as we created the video was also something I'll never forget."

DJ Steve Porter Of PorterHouse Media Wins Prestigious D&AD Award For NBA Finals Campaign

DJ Steve Porter Of PorterHouse Media Wins Prestigious D&AD Award For NBA Finals CampaignTops Field In Category Of "Use Of Music For Film Category"

HOLYOKE, Mass. (June 22, 2011) --- Master video remixer DJ Steve Porter, founder of the acclaimed PorterHouse Media production company, has been honored with a prestigious D&AD Award for his collaboration with the National Basketball Association in producing an ad campaign featuring a series of "mashups" highlighting the 2010 NBA Finals.

Porter was honored as Music Composer of the campaign, which were produced by Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, under the category "Use of Music for Film Advertising."

The series of mashups highlighted the great history of the NBA Finals, as the NBA wrote in its description of the campaign:

Jay-Z owns a portion of the New Jersey Nets.  Marvin Gaye sang the greatest version of the national anthem at the 1983 NBA all-star game.  And Shaq likes to rap . . . well . . . sorta.  Most NBA players use music to pump themselves up or focus before every game.  Music and the NBA just seem to go really well together.  Last year (2010), we officially embraced this musical synergy and partnered with DJ Steve Porter to produce a TV campaign of 'mashups.'  These songs have celebrity singers.  The vocals are the actual sound bites of players and coaches from the NBA put to beats.

The annual D&AD Awards (D&AD stands for "Design and Art Direction") are recognized worldwide as the standard for creative excellence in design and advertising.  Based in London, D&AD is an educational charity to promote the best in design and advertising.

"This is a big-time award in our field, and I couldn't be more excited to bring one home for the team," said Porter.  "Working with the NBA was a terrific honor, and mixing music with footage of such greats as Micheal Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Bill Walton and Bob Cousy was a dream come true for me as a lifetime Boston Celtics fan."

Porter and PorterHouse Media has long had a unique ability to bridge sports with music in creating unique, engaging, and eye-catching music-video compositions, producing a multitude of work for ESPN, including the popular "Monthly Mashup" on SportsCenter, as well as NBC Sports, the world champion Dallas Mavericks, TMZ, VH1, New York Knicks, E!, Puma, Maxim, Wheaties and others.

HOLYOKE, Mass. (June 2, 2011) --- PorterHouse Media, a production company founded by master video remixer DJ Steve Porter, has been commissioned by Puma to produce a multi-purpose video composition highlighting the world's fastest man, Usain Bolt.

The flamboyant Bolt, 24, is a Jamaican sprinter and three-time World and Olympic gold medalist.  He currently holds the world record in both the 100 meters (9.58 seconds) and 200 meters (19.19 seconds), thus earning the dubious distinction of "World's Fastest Man."

"We don't have much to work with since his races are over so quickly," joked Porter.  "But seriously, he's quite a character who backs up his talk on the track.  We will have a lot of fun creating this video, and are honored Puma came to us."

PH Media’s Steve Porter in Maxim Magazine

You may remember Steve Porter from viral videos such as We Talkin ‘Bout Practice, and the Slap Chop Rap. He was kind enough to apply his mad skillz (with a “Z”, bitches!) to our Hometown Hotties and, well, just drool at the results for yourself.

How would you explain what it is you do?
I’m a DJ, music producer, and video editor. Typically I’m doing all these things at exactly the same time to create…whatever it is I create.

Now how do you explain to your parents what you do?
They didn’t always get what I was doing. In the beginning it just sounded like a bunch of techno noise coming from the basement. Now that my stuff is on TV, we’re suddenly speaking the same language.

What was the first mix you ever did?
The first audio remix I did was in 1997. It was a mashup of “Heaven is a Place on Earth” and “Let the Music Play.” The first video remix I ever tried was Little John versus the Fraggle Rock theme song
.
How do they sound to you now?
It’s embarrassingly bad. But looking back on early efforts offers perspective on how far you’ve come.

What’s your favorite so far?
The Bed Intruder mix stands out. The original video was already viral and the Gregory Brothers absolutely hit out of the park with their remix.

So how can a regular person make this stuff?
Start small. Bring a music track into iMovie and try to create a video sequence. I’d recommend some entry level music software like Garage Band. Musically, less is more and less is more catchy. Comb the front pages of YouTube or the Viral Video Chart. People are talking about that stuff. Add some musical fire and you could have a viral video.

What kind of software and hardware do you use to make your remixes?
I produce music in Ableton Live and do my video editing in Final Cut Pro. I do everything on a laptop.

How did you get started making video remixes?
I just wanted to add another dimension to my music. I always wanted to get into film scoring or video editing, but I never imagined I would be doing it like this.

Do you have any influences in the video remix culture?
I was sort of in my own sandbox when I started making video remixes, but there are some amazing artists out there are definitely influences: Eclectic Method, The Gregory Brothers, Pogo, and Mike Realm come to mind. And there’s a wave of new music video editors. I'm positive this is the just the beginning and we haven't begun to push the envelope.

Do you perform regular DJ gigs?
For about 10 years I toured heavily, playing at clubs and festivals around the world, but in 2010 I had to slim down due to the workload at Porterhouse Media. Best gigs of 2010 were Coachella and Lollapalooza, and I’m hoping to do more festival gigs in 2011.

Do you preplan your sets or spin as the party unfolds?
I always prepare for my gigs, but I also leave gaps and prep for various scenarios. You never know, the party might be hoppin' when you get on, or it might be dead. You want to be prepared for all situations.

With your songs, do the beats or the lyrics come first?
The lyrics and the beat go hand in hand when I begin a piece. I usually figure out the lyrics I have available to me. Then I'll build a beat inspired by a concept. I begin to write the baseline and melodies after that. My creative process is a bit like sculpting—I add and subtract material until I get what I'm looking for.

What’s next for you?
I’d love to collaborate with a pop vocalist to see what would happen. I’ve spent so much time in the trenches making underground dance music. Now I’m deep in the media world, but I’d love to try and bring something cool to the masses.

The party's over. What do you play to clear the room?
Crystal Waters, “Come on Down.” It samples the Price is Right theme song. It’s atrocious and hilarious at the same time. People leave laughing, or laughing at you.

PorterHouse Media’s Steve Porter featured in Sports Illustrated

Speaking off the cuff has never been as risky as in the YouTube age, in which a postgame gaffe could become aSportsCentersound bite—or worse, a catchy song. Some badly behaving coaches and athletes can thank Amherst, Mass., native Steve Porter, 32, for ensuring their antics won't soon be forgotten. Last year Porter first mixed a hip-hop beat with Auto-Tuned versions of then 76ers guard Allen Iverson's 2002 "Practice?!" rant and former Colts coach Jim Mora's 2001 "Playoffs?!" tirade. He posted the result, calledPress Hop, on YouTube, and within months Porter says he went from being "just a guy in a laboratory" to the founder of PorterHouse Media.

In 2010 Porter's video remixes—featuring everyone from Ray Lewis to the boys of NASCAR—aired on ESPN,Hockey Night in Canadaand in promos for the NBA; and in July he culled from the ripe press conferences of LeBron, Tiger and Brett Favre forPress Hop 2. (Yes, he saw Derek Anderson's recent rant; and yes, he's working on it.) Altogether his clips have garnered more than 22 million views on YouTube. Gird your loins, athletes. Steve Porter is watching.

PH Media mixes up hockey rivalry for a new audience

Do yourself a favour. Next time you’re on your computer, go to YouTube, type in ‘DJ Steve Porter HNIC’ and just watch. You’ve likely never seen anything like it. Unless, of course, you were among the nearly 12 million viewers to see Porter’s Slap Chop mix or the three million viewers to see his Allen Iverson video.

Anyway, Porter is the guy responsible for the video setting up the Toronto Maple Leafs game against the Montreal Canadiens on Hockey Night in Canada this past Saturday. The one-minute clip focused on the rivalry between the two Original Six teams by mashing Bob Cole’s voice and athletes’ interviews from back in the day with music. The end product is something quite unique and dare we say, cutting edge.

“I’ve been coming to Canada for a long time as a DJ — I’ve been to Vancouver lots of times playing at Celebrities and other clubs — but it’s pretty wild to enter the market from a different angle,” said Porter, who was consistently ranked among the world’s best DJs for most of this decade. “The sports stuff is a totally different audience, 180 degrees compared to the club scene, but fans are just as passionate, so it’s been a lot of fun. I used to watch Hockey Night [in Canada] from my hotel when touring and now to be a part of it is pretty special.”

Porter burst into the mainstream with Rap Chop on April 25, 2009. Within a few days the remixed and auto-tuned clips of Vince Offer’s Slap Chop infomercial went viral and Porter was en route to becoming a household name.

“That was my big coming out party,” said Porter, 32, who was born in Amherst, Mass., and is a longtime Bruins fan. “I did Iverson after that and then it went completely crazy. Now, I was doing interviews with Fox News and ESPN. It was nuts, it was just insane in terms of what happened. I had like a million views after six days and my life completely changed.”

For the better. No more flights from New York to Mexico for gigs on Friday and Saturday nights, for one. He’s since founded PorterHouse Media, a multimedia production company that focuses on unique audio and visual compositions. The NFL, NBA, Disney, ABC, FedEx, TMZ and VH1 are just some of his clients.

Now you can add HNIC to the er, mix. Porter sent a sample video to the producers of the show this summer and it didn’t take long before they signed him to a six-video deal.

“Our mandate is to connect with viewers,” said Trevor Pilling, executive producer of HNIC. “We have many different characters … and what DJ Steve Porter does is leading edge and is good for our younger demographic and old because he provides good content which appeals to everybody.”

The next one will be released this Saturday and will star none other HNIC's biggest character.

“Don Cherry is just perfect for this — he’s John Madden, but just a lot more flamboyant,” said Porter, adding the other four mash-ups will be shown in 2011, the final two during the Stanley Cup playoffs. “The way he talks — he just lets it fly. He’s totally unchecked.”

PorterHouse Media + Steve Porter Tackle Hockey Night in Canada

Forty video uploads. More than 22 million hits total. Endless entertainment at YouTube parties.

And you'll never look at Allen Iverson or the Slap Chop guy the same way again.

Yes, we're talking about DJ Steve Porter. And hockey fans can rejoice — he's taking his act to Hockey Night in Canada, starting on Saturday with a special opening to the Toronto Maple Leafs-Montreal Canadiens matchup (CBC, CBCSports.ca, 7 p.m. ET).

If you clicked on this story because you saw his name, you don't need an introduction.

But if you haven't seen his videos yet, do yourself a favour and watch this. We'll wait for you to get back.

Congratulations. You are now approximately the 3,254,297th person to have watched that video. And now you know exactly what Porter is all about: remixing and autotuning clips for dramatic and/or hilarious effect.

Ever since Porter, a widely-touring DJ for years before his YouTube explosion, decided to act on an itch to try "something different" a couple years ago, the internet hasn't been the same.

"I was just experimenting with really corny stuff," he told CBCSports.ca. "Eventually I just started breaking through, making little impacts here and there, released a video called Slap Chop Rap which went really big."

How big? Eleven million YouTube hits big. Mainstream media big. "Dude you gotta see this video" big.

The music-sports shake

Porter, 32, decided to make a sports-themed remix soon after. That's when Press Rap was born.

"With sports especially, more than in most industries, you have so many superstars, so many egos, so much great content, so much action, so much love and passion for one thing," Porter said. "It's more or less taking two awesome things, music and sports, putting it into a blender, shaking it up and having a music-sports shake."

Two years, numerous uploads and a brand new company later, Porter has had the NBA, NFL, and others knocking on his door seeking his remixing talents.

Which brings us to hockey, a sport the Massachusetts native fell in love with after countless hours of using the wraparound trick while playing NHL '93 for the Sega Genesis.

"I watched Bruins hockey on TV, but when I started playing Sega Genesis that's when I really, really started getting hockey fever," Porter said. "I don't know if it's a good thing or bad thing, but I learned so much through playing it on a TV set. I became a huge fan and understood the game so much more."

Now he's set to tackle HNIC, starting with the tradition-rich material of the classic Habs-Leafs rivalry. His take on the matchup will open the CBC Hockey Night broadcast on Saturday.

"I would travel to Canada and watch Hockey Night in Canada on TV when I was in hotels, when I was touring [as a DJ]," Porter said. "And to be able to actually work alongside Hockey Night in Canada … I couldn't be more excited about it.

"It's an experience I could never imagine undertaking a couple years ago."

And anyone asking the obvious question will like this answer.

"I definitely want to do a Don Cherry remix," Porter said.

"The way he talks — he just lets it fly. He's unchecked," he said. "To me he's like one of the Godfathers of the sport. He can say what he wants to say … and I think that's why he has great material to work with."

ESPN Utilizes DJ Steve Porter's PorterHouse Media to Create Weekly Video Remixes for NFL Season

NEW YORK, Nov. 4, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- PorterHouse Media, the production company founded by master video remixer DJ Steve Porter, will create a series of ten videos that will air on ESPN in conjunction with the weekly NFL games. After creating videos that aired as the 2010 NBA Playoff/Marketing Campaign, the 2010-2011 NFL season allowed PorterHouse Media to again successfully bridge sports and music.
"Our production team at PorterHouse Media has thoroughly enjoyed the past projects we have collaborated on with ESPN, and both the team and myself are very excited for this next challenging opportunity to create something special for the 2010-11 NFL season."- Steve Porter
On September 9th, Steve appeared live on ESPN's "NFL Countdown," where he debuted "Get Your Popcorn Ready," a mash-up of NFL's stars Terrell "T.O." Owens and Chad Ochocinco. With the release of this video, ESPN filmed and aired an exclusive "Behind the Scenes" look at Steve Porter in his studio, illustrating how he creates his remixes.
PorterHouse also created "That's My Brother," which premiered on September 19th. This revolved around Eli and Peyton Manning (brothers who are among the NFL's best quarterbacks) and debuted right before they went head-to-head in a New York Giants/Indianapolis Colts match up.
The latest PorterHouse creation debuted last Sunday, October 31st on NFL Countdown. Titled "One Clap," it revolves around Minnesota Vikings' Randy Moss. The most successful of the weekly NFL videos so far, "One Clap" has over 1,000,000 views on YouTube in just a couple of days and remains on the front page of YouTube Sports. This video's outstanding response is evidence of this campaign's continued success; sports and music fans alike are waiting each week for the latest PorterHouse video remix!

PorterHouse Media’s Steve Porter set to Fire Up ‘Midnight Madness’

Champaign, Ill.-The University of Illinois men's basketball team will host Illini Madness on Friday, Oct. 15, at Huff Hall, with doors opening at 10 p.m. The event will be free and open to the general public.

"Two of my goals for this year's Madness event were to place a strong emphasis on student attendance and create a very loud and energized atmosphere for our players to enjoy," Fighting Illini men's basketball coach Bruce Weber said. "We believe Huff Hall is the best place to make that happen. We've seen tremendous growth in student season tickets the past two years, so having Illini Madness right in the heart of campus at Huff also is a nice reward for the Orange Krush and other Illinois students who buy season tickets."

Much of the volume at Illini Madness will emanate from DJ Steve Porter, one of the nation's most popular club DJs. A huge sports fan, Porter decided to combine his love of sports and music in a cutting-edge manner that has made him one of YouTube's biggest sensations. His YouTube videos have been viewed more than 20 million times.

The popularity of Porter's videos has led to work with many well-known brands. Porter, of PorterHouse Media, created the 2010 NBA Playoffs television ad campaign and his work for ESPN includes video remixes for Sunday NFL Countdown and SportsNation, among other projects. Porter's work as a DJ includes appearances at Lollapalooza, Miami's Ultra Music Festival, and the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

"We are excited to add one of the nation's top DJs to Illini Madness," Assistant Director of Athletics Chris Hanna said. "Steve Porter has created a very unique niche in music, sports and technology. Illinois students will love the electric atmosphere Porter creates inside the confines of Huff Hall."

Illini Madness will feature the shooting contest and dunk contest fans have come to expect from the Fighting Illini. Player introductions will be followed by the traditional scrimmage that marks the first practice of the year.

Doors will open at 10 p.m. and the event will begin when the building reaches capacity. That start time incorporates the time it will take the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics to clear the building and prepare Huff Hall for Illini Madness following the Illinois-Purdue volleyball match. That match begins at 7 p.m. and should end around 9 p.m. Illinois officials anticipate fans will begin lining up for Madness early due to the building's limited capacity of less than 4,500.

Additionally, the annual Orange & Blue Scrimmage will be enhanced this year, allowing people that cannot attend Illini Madness to see some of the popular Madness elements. A shooting contest and dunk contest will be added to the Sunday, Oct. 24, Orange & Blue Scrimmage along with enhanced player introductions. Tickets for that event are on sale now for $10 at FightingIllini.com.

Steve Porter: Performing with Perry was amazing! I had to pinch myself because I have so much respect for him and was into Jane’s Addiction when I was ten years old. We had a blast, I mixed between tracks he was performing live and tracks that I had produced. We’ll be performing again at Lollapalooza in August, and we’ll be debuting some new original material then as well.
